Guard Openings

In a previous chapter I talked about knowing what that picture looks like that’s in your heart. When I talk about the heart, I’m not just talking about the thing that’s in your chest that causes blood to flow through your body. I’m talking about the core of who you are. I’m talking about the very essence of your being. And that heart on the inside of you, that core, it’s not just there for decoration, but it’s a manufacturing center and it has the ability to produce whatever you put in. That’s why I believe that we live life from the inside out. What’s in our heart is the very thing that we’re experiencing now. I’m writing this book because it’s in my heart. I believe that these keys will help you move further. So the question becomes: how did what’s in my heart get there? We have these openings, these gates, and they lead directly to our heart, again, which is the manufacturing center that is designed to produce what we put in, whether good or bad. If we are going to GO, we must GUARD OPENINGS.

One opening we have is our mouth. In speaking right things or speaking wrong things they both go through our ears, which is another opening, and it leads to our heart. We have the option to decide whether or not the heart, ear, and mouth connection will be a victorious or a vicious cycle. Here’s how this works! Our words are invisible forces that have the ability to cause ships of circumstance to set sail at our command. They literally set the course for our lives. But, where do those words originate? They come from the heart (Matthew 12:34). Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. So, if the heart is not guarded against destructive influences, it will produce a destructive language that will take on the form of word power. Those words then reinforce the destructive belief as we hear them when they are released through the mouth and the cycle continues. On the contrary, the opposite is true. If we allow constructive influences in our hearts, it will produce a constructive language that will take on the form of word power. Those words then reinforce the constructive belief as we hear them when they are released through the mouth, and the cycle continues.

The other opening that we must guard is our eyes – the things we see. These things have great influence on our heart. Our heart has great influence on what our lives look like. So if we’re going to GO, we must guard openings. Guard the heart, for out of it flows the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). What does that really mean? One translation says to guard your heart because it determines the course for your life (NLT). I think that translation gives much clearer insight on what that means. We have the ability to shape our lives.
